Call for submissions
Following our successful 2024 online conference, the Society of Indexers invites submissions for our 2025 in-person conference at Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre in Birmingham on 19–21 September 2025. We will have a full programme over three days comprising plenary (full conference) presentations and smaller breakout sessions. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘The Heart and Mind of Indexing’, inspired by the event being located in Birmingham within the Heart of England geographical area, and the ongoing importance of human empathy and real intelligence in book indexing.
Suggested topics of interest are the importance of the human indexer in the publishing process, the enduring value of book indexes, maintaining standards in indexing, international indexing cooperation, digital publishing and generative AI (artificial intelligence) issues. We welcome proposals for plenary conference papers, interactive breakout sessions, panel discussions and shorter lightning talks.
Submission details
Please submit your proposal by email by 31 March 2025 to the Society’s Conference Director, Paula Clarke Bain, at [email protected], indicating:

Proposal decisions will be confirmed in April 2025.
We would warmly welcome your participation in our 2025 conference.
