General Experience

I gained Accreditation in September 2023 as a Professional Member of the Society of Indexers, following my successful completion of the SI training course.  As the Student Representative for four years I enjoyed the contact I had with both fellow student indexers and the Training Course Committee.  Building on my training, I’m committed to improving my indexing skills so that I can offer the best service possible to clients and users.

I have previous experience as a freelance abstract writer for a legal publisher, creating entries for an online journals service, writing abstracts and assigning keywords and subjects using a taxonomy.  I also have experience as a professional law librarian for an international law firm, supporting in particular the banking, finance and taxation practice groups.

I studied English Literature as my main subject as part of a Combined Studies degree and my ongoing interests include art and architecture appreciation, local history (I am a member of the Frome Society for Local Study), film (I was Secretary of the local film club for four years), singing folk songs in a local singing group, walking and wildlife friendly gardening.  I am interested in sustainable tourism, reflected in my holiday let business which I have been running for over 10 years.

Wellbeing

My final indexing course assignment before accreditation was an index to Sleep by Nick Littlehales, receiving favourable comments from my course adviser:

“This is a well-constructed user-friendly index which shows good understanding and application of the principles and practices of indexing taught in the training course…This is a highly commendable index of a professional standard, showing you have the competence to index commercially and create a product which will be valued by clients.”
