General Experience

I am a former senior commissioning editor in academic publishing and a former practising solicitor. I have been indexing professionally since 2019.

Law (All Areas)

I index across a wide range of legal areas and I undertake legal tabling. In this, I draw on extensive previous experience of legal practice and of academic publishing. I qualified as a solicitor in Scotland and spent ten years working in corporate law and corporate finance in Glasgow and London. As a senior editor at Palgrave Macmillan, I held commissioning responsibility for a wide-ranging list of prominent legal textbooks and the award-winning Socio-Legal Studies monograph series. Thereafter I spent a year on the law list at Routledge / Taylor & Francis.
Recent indexes include:
Future Law: Emerging Technology, Ethics and Regulation (2020)
Social Institutions and International Human Rights Law Implementation: Every Organ of Society (2020)
Imagining Regulation Differently: Co-Creating for Engagement (2020)
A History of Child Protection Law in Scotland (2020)

I have a legal background in corporate law and corporate finance and I hold an MSc in international tourism management. As a commissioning editor, much of my focus was on works concerning aspects of business and corporate law.

Social Sciences (All Areas)

I index widely across the social sciences.
Recent indexes include:
Imagining Regulation Differently: Co-Creating for Engagement (2020)
Contested Britain: Brexit, Austerity and Agency (2020)
Social Divisions, 4e (2020)

A legal background gives me a certain understanding of the legal and constitutional aspects of government and I have long been a keen observer of politics and current affairs.
Recent indexes include:
Contested Britain: Brexit, Austerity and Agency (2020)

English Literature

I am always interested in indexing works on literature, and also film, theatre, music and opera.
Recent indexes include:
Cross-Channel Modernisms (2020)

History (All Areas)

I welcome indexing projects in history and heritage. I have a specific interest in the operation of heritage visitor attractions.

I studied tourism from a business and management perspective and I have travelled extensively on an independent basis throughout my adult life.

I was brought up in Scotland and lived much of my adult life there. I am therefore very much at home with indexing commissions that have a particularly Scottish theme.
