After a degree in medieval & modern history, I worked in public libraries for 20 years, most of them as a chartered librarian. I catalogued using Dewey Decimal Classification for c3 years.
While training in indexing, I helped adult learners to get online or to achieve CLAiT and ECDL using MS Office programs.
I became a qualified indexer in 2011 and then took a proofreading course with The Publishing Training Centre.
For 5 years until 2016 I was part-time clerk to the parish council where I live – close to the Norfolk-Suffolk border. Birdwatching and family history have replaced village cricket as my main pastimes.
Available for indexing all year, except September.

Besides regular recording of birds for the BTO via BirdTrack, I make the monthly WEBs count at Lound Lakes. I have been volunteering at the Little Terns colonies at Great Yarmouth/ Winterton/ Eccles-on-Sea since 2005.
Long-time collector and reader of Wisden and The Cricketer. Follower of Test Match cricket and the 1st-class game in England.
Village club cricketer 1979-2004.
Besides my main interest in birds, I record butterflies, dragonflies and mammals for Norfolk and Suffolk county recorders. I have volunteered for the Broads Authority and currently as a part-time seasonal warden for Friends of Horsey Seals, looking after the grey seal colony on Norfolk’s east coast.
Grayling, A.C.: The age of genius – the seventeenth century and the birth of the modern mind (Bloomsbury, 2017). Unpublished index (prepared from published book).
I have been researching family histories since 2010. I keep uptodate with developments in the field largely through membership of five family history societies. In 2017 I have had a first article published in The Greenwood Tree (journal of the Somerset and Dorset Family FHS) and am planning more.
Working in public libraries for 20+ years, several of those as a UNISON steward, has given me inside knowledge of the issues and workings of the local government sector.
