General Experience

I’ve been an indexer for over 20 years, working on a wide range of science, maths and general interest books. Before I started indexing, I worked in research and development for British Telecom Research Laboratories and as a science teacher. Available all year and always willing to consider short deadlines. I’m happy to send out examples of my indexes or links to online publications, so that you can see the quality of my work. The list below is just a sample of my published indexes.

Subjects

Sciences (All Areas)

I have a BSc (Hons) Materials Science, with a placement year at the Central Electricity Generating Board. I worked in research and development on telecoms systems, and taught science to A level. I’ve indexed science books for over 20 years.

Because my experience has been mostly with the physical sciences and technology, I don’t take on university level biological materials. I have produced indexes for several GCSE and A level biology books.

Mathematics

In addition to A level maths, I studied it for two years as part of my first degree. I have used maths extensively in my career. I have been indexing maths textbooks for over 20 years.

Materials Science

First degree (upper second) in materials science. I have produced a number of indexes for university level textbooks, with Materials for Solid State Lighting and Displays as the latest.

Chemistry

As well as passing A level chemistry, I studied it for two years as part of my first degree. I indexed an annual publication Organic Reaction Mechanisms for 6 years and numerous A level textbooks.

Physics

As well as passing A level physics, I studied it for two years as part of my first degree. I’ve been indexing physics textbooks for over 20 years.

Technology

I have first degree in materials science, with a placement year at the Central Electricity Generating Board and I’ve worked in research and development on telecoms systems. I’ve produced indexes for a number of technology books.

Because my experience has been mostly with the physical sciences and technology, I don’t take on post-A level biotechnology books.

Education (All Areas)

I completed a postgraduate certificate in education and taught science for a few years. I have kept up to date with issues in education and indexed school textbooks for over 20 years.
