General Experience
Professional indexing (over 35 years) of medical and biological science textbooks, encyclopaedias and journals. All types of undergraduate and postgraduate titles of any length (from 50 to 14,000-plus pages) indexed. Available throughout the year. Extensive experience in indexing high-level, multi-volume text, and electronic titles, or one-off special projects. Simultaneous indexing of books and online/e-books undertaken. Experience in embedded indexing.
Awards: Wheatley Medal (for outstanding indexes) winner in 1993, 1997 and 2010, and shortlisted or runner-up in 1999, 2000, 2003, and 2009.
Specialist Experience: Development of NHS Choices ontology (2010), and further ontology work for Private Healthcare Information Network (2021). Was full member of EU Network of Excellence on Semantic Mining (2004-2007), with workpackages on ontologies, data-mining, text mining, medical taxonomies, and natural language processing.
Additional services: Ontology development, ICD10, SNOMED-CT coding of medical texts, website indexing, development of medical ‘Questions and Answers’,linking medical textbooks by topic, and metadata, thesaurus or synonym list development.
