General Experience
Since qualifying in 1991, I have indexed a wide range of books, including Atlas of the World’s Languages (Routledge), The Virgil Encyclopedia (Wiley-Blackwell, 3 vols), Reconstructing the Lansdowne Collection (Hirmer, 2 vols) and The Golden Bough (Folio, 2 vols). I specialise in history, from ancient history (Livy, Tacitus, Polybius) to mediaeval (Wessex, Magna Carta) to modern (Encyclopedia of Race, Ethnicity and Nationalism), as well as current affairs (Lebanon, Ireland), social and economic history (China Trade and Empire), art (Seventeenth-century English Miniatures), letters (Van Gogh) and biography (In Isadora’s Steps). My index to The War with Hannibal (Folio) was highly commended by the Wheatley Medal panel.
Acting as editorial consultant to individuals and specialist publishers, I have a huge range of experience in copy-editing and proofreading, in which I also act as tutor, mentor and test writer. I specialise in rewriting for clarity, conciseness and readability, for a specific audience or for public information, and I can also offer ghostwriting.
