General Experience

I specialise in education and social science indexes. My qualifications include an MA Joint Hons in English and Psychology, and an MSc in Publishing Studies. I have many years of experience in education and local government, which included working with schools and on educational projects. I have also worked in the voluntary sector, am a trained librarian and information professional, and have experiencing of coaching and cognitive behavioural therapy.

I can offer both stand-alone and embedded indexes, and I am happy to work on a broad range of educational or social topics.

Information Management

I am a professional librarian, with several years experience of working in a local authority library service, as well as some in school libraries. My professional experience has also included extensive work in records management, and I would welcome indexes relating to the practice or theory in this field.

Education (All Areas)

I worked within a local authority Education & Skills department for many years, and also have a very strong personal interest, with multiple family members who are teachers. My particular interests include educational psychology, school management and leadership, special educational needs, diversity-related issues in education, and technology-enhanced education. I also have strong knowledge and personal interests relating to inclusion and autism. I am very familiar with all stages of formal education, with a good and up-to-date working knowledge of recent developments in the school sector internationally. I am also interested in topics relating to informal education and lifelong learning.

Teaching

I have direct experience as a teacher, including several years experience of teaching English as a foreign language and of teaching information literacy skills at secondary school level, as well as designing and delivering workshops.

Psychiatry/Psychology

Psychology is a particular area of interest and knowledge, as my undergraduate degree was in Psychology (joint Hons). I also have subsequent short qualifications in Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I am especially familiar with cognitive psychology, attachment theory, social psychology, development, and wellbeing-related issues.

Child Development

As part of my local authority experience I spent several years working in partnership with early years settings, delivering local and national literacy and play initiatives. Together with my Honours degree in Psychology, I am well placed to index texts that feature psychological or psychosocial theories of development.

Parenting

I have several years of experience delivering parenting workshops in partnership with local authorities. In addition, as a parent myself, I am widely read in this area and very aware of the issues facing modern parents, practical techniques. This includes the broader social and political context relating to parenting, as well as practical issues.

Scotland

I was born and raised in Scotland, and have several years working for Scottish third sector organisations and local authorities. I would therefore be happy to index texts with a particular Scottish focus, especially those relating to cultural history.

I have a first degree in Psychology and have studied several short and medium length courses in Counselling, Coaching and Psychotherapy. I would be delighted to index texts in these fields.
